No matter how many things I learn (and continue to learn), one truth has stood the test of time: the power of your voice.
From childhood to adulthood, my relationship with self-expression has been both fascinating and intimidating. At four years old, I was mesmerised by Cher, watching her on screen, boldly performing and speaking with magnetic confidence. She wasn’t just singing; she was owning her space. To my young mind, she represented what life should be: loud, colourful, sensational, vibrant, and unapologetically expressive.
I grew up believing girls were meant to be seen and heard. That belief carried me proudly into school until, like many of us, I was shut down by my peers.
I’ll never forget when a classmate told me, “You talk too much, and no one likes you.” My little heart broke. I went from bursting with creativity and curiosity to holding it all in. My once-bright voice became something I saved only for home, my safe space.
Then came migration and with it, a new layer of silence. My introversion became second nature, something I carried like a shield. Every so often, I’d rebel; perhaps the tropical air reignited a spark the cold English wind had dimmed. But time and again, I learned the same lesson: my voice could either empower or get me into trouble. It wasn’t until adulthood that I discovered how to use it strategically, knowing when, where, and how to speak.
Ironically, if you ask anyone close to me, they’ll tell you I can be dramatically vocal, but I also know when to pause, reflect, and recalibrate.
Looking back on my journey, through school, relationships, and countless life lessons, I’ve often been told that I’m “too much.” Too outspoken. Too bold. Too direct. But every “too much” moment shaped my understanding of communication, teaching me that your voice isn’t the problem; it’s how you use it.
Voice Check was born from a simple realisation: I needed to check myself, not silence myself.
I wanted to ensure I was communicating with grace, empathy, and self-awareness, balancing strength with sensitivity. The goal wasn’t to tone down who I was, but to express myself with intention and integrity.
If you’ve ever struggled to say what you feel or hold back because of fear, doubt, or years of being told you’re “too much,” then Voice Check is for you.
It’s a seven-day guided reflection and confidence-building journal, blending practical prompts with spiritual insight. It helps you reconnect with your authentic voice, the one buried beneath overthinking, people-pleasing, and self-doubt.
Take a look. Explore. Reflect. This is a gift from me to you, a gentle guide to rediscover your courage, clarity, and calm as you navigate this wild ride called life.
Because your voice matters. It always has and it always will.
